Sell my Meta Quest: how to reset and sell a Quest 2, Quest 3 or Quest Pro
Selling a Meta Quest VR headset? How to unlink it from your Meta account, factory reset it, clean it hygienically and sell it in the UK for a fair offer.

VR headsets are a classic case of tech that's used intensely for a while and then put on a shelf. If your Meta Quest isn't getting much use any more, it's worth selling while it's still supported and there's demand from people wanting to try VR.
Which Quest do you have?
- Meta Quest 3 — the mixed reality headset with colour passthrough.
- Meta Quest 3S — a more affordable version of Quest 3.
- Meta Quest Pro — the premium model with face and eye tracking.
- Meta Quest 2 (Oculus Quest 2) — the very popular previous model.
- Original Oculus Quest — the first standalone Quest.
- Oculus Rift and Rift S — PC VR headsets.
Check the label inside the headset strap area, the box, or the Meta Horizon app on your phone. Note the storage size.
What affects what your Quest is worth
- Model and storage.
- Lens condition. Scratches on the lenses are the biggest issue — they affect the image. Sunlight damage is also a risk: direct sunlight through the lenses can burn the displays.
- Controllers. Both controllers should be included and working.
- Face interface. The foam face cushion wears out. Replacement interfaces are widely available.
- Strap. Upgraded straps like the Elite Strap can add value.
- Battery. Check how long it lasts on a full charge.
- Charger and cable.
Step 1: Back up and unlink
Your Quest is linked to your Meta account. Before selling:
- Most game progress is saved to the cloud automatically if cloud backup is on. Check in the headset's settings under backup.
- In the Meta Horizon app on your phone, go to Devices, select your headset, and remove or unpair it from your account. The exact menu name can change — look for options like "Unpair" or "Remove device".
- If you have a Quest+ subscription or other subscriptions you won't use, manage these in the app.
Your purchased apps and games stay on your Meta account and can be used on another Quest.
Step 2: Factory reset
You can reset from the app (under advanced settings for the device) or from the headset itself:
- Turn the headset off.
- Hold the power and volume down buttons together until the boot menu appears.
- Use the volume buttons to select Factory Reset and the power button to confirm.
This removes all data from the headset.
Step 3: Clean it hygienically
VR headsets touch your face, so cleanliness matters a lot.
- Lenses: use only a dry optical microfibre cloth, wiping gently in circles from the centre outwards. Never use liquids, alcohol or abrasive materials on the lenses.
- Face interface: wipe with a non-abrasive antibacterial wipe, or replace the foam with a new one.
- Strap and headset body: wipe with a slightly damp cloth.
- Controllers: wipe with an antibacterial wipe. Remove AA batteries before posting, or leave them in if you're including them, but make sure they can't leak.
Step 4: Check it works
- The headset powers on and the displays are clear.
- Tracking works smoothly without drift.
- Both controllers track and every button works.
- Passthrough works on Quest 3 and Quest Pro.
- Audio works through the built-in speakers.

Packing a VR headset
- Protect the lenses first. Use the lens protector that came with the headset, or a soft cloth.
- The original box is ideal. A hard carry case is also great.
- Wrap the headset and each controller separately.
- Pack the charger in a separate layer.
- Use a box with padding on every side.

FAQ
Can I sell a Quest with scratched lenses?
Minor marks that don't affect the image may be acceptable. Scratches that affect what you see count as damage.
Do I need the original charger?
It's better to include it, but describe what you have.
Do you buy PS VR and PS VR2?
Yes, if they work. See our games console guide.
Will the new owner get my games?
No. Your games stay on your account. The headset is reset to factory settings.
Do you buy Oculus Rift headsets?
If they work properly and meet our £15 minimum, yes.
