Sell my Xbox: how to sell an Xbox Series X, Series S or Xbox One in the UK
Selling an Xbox Series X, Series S or Xbox One? What it's worth depends on a few key things. Here's how to reset it, what to include and how to sell it easily.

If you've searched "sell my Xbox", you're probably in one of a few situations: you've upgraded, you've moved to PC or another console, or the kids have moved on. Whatever the reason, a working Xbox is useful to someone else, and selling it is straightforward once you know the steps.
Which Xbox do you have?
The model makes the biggest difference to what it's worth. Check the label on the back or underside of the console, or go to Settings > System > Console info.
- Xbox Series X — the tall black tower with a 4K Blu-ray disc drive (there's also a digital edition variant).
- Xbox Series S — the smaller white console with no disc drive (there's also a black version with more storage).
- Xbox One X — the most powerful Xbox One, with a disc drive.
- Xbox One S — the slimmer white Xbox One, with or without a disc drive (the "All-Digital Edition" has none).
- Original Xbox One — the large black console with an external power brick.
- Xbox 360 and original Xbox — these are now retro territory. See our retro games guide.
What decides what your Xbox is worth
- Model and storage. Larger internal storage adds a little value.
- Condition. Scratches on the glossy surfaces, discoloured plastics, and any smell of smoke all affect value.
- Controllers. An official Xbox Wireless Controller is expected. Extra controllers add value; drifting thumbsticks or sticky buttons reduce it.
- Cables. The power cable and HDMI cable should be included.
- Box. Helpful for packing, not essential.
- Games. Physical games can be included and may add value.
Step 1: Save your games and data
Most Xbox game saves sync to the cloud automatically when you're signed in and online. To be sure, check that each game shows as synced. Screenshots and game clips can be uploaded to your account or copied to a USB drive.
Step 2: Remove your account and home console setting
Your Xbox might be set as your "home Xbox", which lets anyone on the console play your digital games and use your Game Pass. Change this before you sell:
- Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
- Go to Profile & system > Settings > General > Personalisation > My home Xbox.
- Select "Make this my home Xbox" to toggle it off (it will say "This is not my home Xbox").
Then remove your account: Settings > Account > Remove accounts.
Step 3: Factory reset
Go to Settings > System > Console info > Reset console, then choose Reset and remove everything. This deletes all accounts, saved games, settings and home Xbox associations, and returns the console to its factory state.
If you can't get into the menus, Xbox has a troubleshooting option at start-up. With the console off, hold the Pair and Eject buttons (on models with a disc drive) and press the Xbox button, keep holding Pair and Eject until you hear two power-up tones, then choose Reset this Xbox. Series S and All-Digital consoles use only the Pair button.
Step 4: Clean it
- Unplug the console.
- Wipe the casing with a dry microfibre cloth.
- Gently clear dust from vents with a soft brush or low-pressure air. Series X has a large top vent where dust gathers.
- Wipe controllers with a slightly damp cloth, then dry. Clean around the thumbsticks and buttons with a dry cotton bud.
- Don't open the console.
Step 5: Gather the bits
- Power cable (Series X/S and One S/X have internal power supplies; the original Xbox One has an external power brick).
- HDMI cable.
- Controllers, with batteries removed or the rechargeable pack you're including.
- Any stand, headset or accessories you're selling.
- Remove any discs from the drive.
How to sell your Xbox
Selling it yourself
Online marketplaces and local selling apps work, but you'll need to photograph it, list it, answer questions, deal with offers, and either meet a buyer or package and post it yourself. Consoles are popular with scammers, so take care with payment methods.
Getting a fixed offer
With SendForCash, describe your Xbox — model, storage, condition, controllers and cables included — and get an instant cash offer. If you accept, we email you a free postage label. Pack it, drop it off at a post office or parcel shop, and we pay you the same day we inspect, by bank transfer or PayPal.
Your offer is valid for five days after accepting, so there's time to save your data and reset the console. If the console doesn't match your description when it arrives, we'll explain why and offer a revised price — and if you'd rather not accept, we send it back free.
Packing your Xbox
- The original box with its inserts is ideal; put it inside a slightly larger outer box.
- Otherwise, wrap the console in bubble wrap and box it with padding on every side.
- Wrap controllers separately so they can't scratch the console.
- The Series X is heavy for its size, so use a sturdy box and make sure it can't shift.
More tips are in our packing guide.
Game Pass and subscriptions
Selling your console doesn't cancel your Game Pass or Xbox subscriptions. If you're not keeping an Xbox, cancel or let them lapse from your Microsoft account. Your purchased digital games stay on your account and can be played on another Xbox or, for many titles, on PC.
FAQ
Can I sell an Xbox without the controller?
Yes, though it will affect the offer. Say so when you describe it.
Do you buy Xbox consoles with a faulty disc drive?
No — we only buy fully working items. If the disc drive, Wi-Fi or HDMI doesn't work properly, it's not one we can accept. An All-Digital or Series S console naturally has no drive, and that's fine.
Can I sell my Xbox games too?
Yes. Physical games can be included with the console or described separately. Digital games can't be sold — they're tied to your account.
Is it worth selling an old Xbox One?
If it works well, it's worth getting an offer. Older consoles may still be above our £15 minimum, especially with controllers and games.
What about Xbox 360?
Working Xbox 360 consoles and games can be offered on. See our retro games guide.
